Online Casino - Serp Analysis - Part 1 - Domain Age and Site History
Nov/0913
I sent out a quick email asking people what they would want to see in the syndk8 forums.
Most of the replys were the usual `content scraping` and `blog farms` but one introduction that said he wanted to learn more made me think.
What if we use the power of numbers to rip apart the top 10 of a competetive google serp?
What if we could see exactly what the big guys and big brands were doing to get and keep that top 10 position.
What if we deconstructed the web site by site, link by link and keyword by keyword?
So to start with i am going to deconstruct the top 10 of online casino in Google.com
This is a snapshot of what i see when i search Online Casino without quotes from my spanish ip on Google.com.
Date: 03 November 2009.
i will keep to this list even if things change s we can keep some uniformity.Top 10 Online Casino Sites - Find the best online gambling sites

What about if we deconstructed them?
Ripped them apart and checked out everything about them?
I havent got a clear plan of how this is going to work yet but we can just make it as we go along.
Lets start with domain age and history.
Using Domaintools subscription ($250 a year)

So we see its a pretty old domain and its registered to 2019 so he has invested a few $ in securing it which aparently ranks as a trust factor with google.
The first whois record i can find is 2005-04-10 and its been the same owner and pretty much the same whois details.
Apparently google watches a site when it changes ip because it could have been bought and may become very spammy.
2422 is a pretty spammy host and you would think with no.1 for online casino he would have it on a dedicated ip and his own box rather than
http://whois.domaintools.com/72.32.147.137
| IP Location: | |
| IP Address: | 72.32.147.137 |
| Reverse IP: | 2,422 other sites hosted on this server. |
| Blacklist Status: | Clear |
OrgName: Rackspace.com, Ltd.
OrgID: RSPC
Address: 9725 Datapoint Drive
Address: Suite 100
City: San Antonio
StateProv: TX
PostalCode: 78229
Country: US
So he is hosted on a usa ip.
Looking at wayback.org
http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.onlinecasinobluebook.com
The site has pretty much not changed since 2003.
So to sum it up.
- Domain Age.
- Length of registration.
- Consistency of whois.
- Registrar History
- Nameserver History
- Ip History
- Whois History
- Reverse ip lookup to see if they are on a dedicated ip or in what could be considered a `bad place`.
Lots of black hat seos and search engine spammers host their stuff on a shared ip so they can hide amongst the crowd. - Country of IP for geolocation targetting.
- Wayback the domain to see the changes and visible history.
We will stay to the topic of deconsructing this domain before we move on to 888.com
Next post will be on page and then the following post will be offpage.
Looks like their will be 3 posts per domain so 30 posts and then we can compile the data and analyse it.
I have 10 listed.
What have i missed and what can i add to the list on history that i havent already?
I am going to be putting a ton of work into this and sharing some stuff which i probably shouldnt so give me some link love and send this page to all your seo contacts so we can really get many opinions and make sure we dont miss anything.
Stuck this in your blgo sidebar or somewhere on one of yur cleaner sites.

This analysis pretty sums up a very good SERP analysis for the history and age. I will be informing others about this.

Thanks dude.
You got me thinking and i have been meaning to do something like this for a while

Hey Earle,
Great Idea. I can see if we all jump in and totally break these sites down then we can apply the same techniques to breakdown any of our competitors in any other field. I will be watching and jumping in when I can to make this a success.
Thanks for starting this thread.

Thanks Tom
I dont think i have ever seen anyone do this in public before so from my terrible memory recall this should be a first and hopefully the start of an interesting journey.

Of course not, it has never been done before. No one in the top 10 of the SERP has ever owned up to buying/trading in links before, so tearing apart the “myth” and “mystery” of top ranking, which people like Matt Cutts have closed their eyes to would be interesting to see in a public arena like this.
The more interesting part is the way you have taken it from the very roots, starting with the history of the site and deconstructing the whole site.
This will really empower the small guy who does not spend all the money in the world to keep the #1 rating in the SERPs.

i was surprised about how many sites were on that IP but then I realized that it just can’t be a big factor. there are just so many IPs and virtual hosting is easy.
also, even the nytimes hosts a few more domains on their IP

“So we see its a pretty old domain and its registered to 2019 so he has invested a few $ in securing it which aparently ranks as a trust factor with google.”
It’s not an apparent trust factor if you have only one case ( onlinecasinobluebook.com) to support it.
Once you can show proof it is a constant or pretty much a constant in overall I would be more inclined to believe this would be a trust signal G takes into account.
I liked reading the SERP analysis series Earl.
