Geeks and billy no mates pay more for their phone calls

I was just thinking about something and i may have read it on a blog the other day.

If you are doing something in the social networking space you need to attract the hub or popular kids.

Mobile phone companys have software to log calls and create patterns.
It is my understanding that the patterns they are looking for are the social hub in a group of friends.
There is always a social hub or a `popular` kid in every social scene and the mobile phone companys look for this person.

For this example i will use Orange as the popular kids phone network.
Apparently Orange will analyse the phone calls to see who is the hub and they will try their best to keep that person on their network by giving them cheaper calls or upgrading them to a new phone that is locked to the Orange network.

Vodaphone and other networks are seeing who is calling the `popular kid` on the Orange network so they can try and switch them over to Vodaphone because apparently people follow the hub in the choice of phone network which i have actually seen happen.
If you get a lot of calls from mobile phone companies, and i mean an excessive amount you should not be too annoyed at this because you may have been identified as the popular kid and for this reason the network will want you.

Think of it in real terms; If you are a Shoemoney lemming and he tells you he is starting to use a new phone call system which you need to download and gives out his phone number or caller id i am sure thousands would download it to talk to the legend himself.

We see it every day in reviews but when you actually think about the phone calls and the patterns that could be identified to create more of a `following` or to bring in more users the possibilities for using the data are endless.
For many years Google has been of the opinion that if many people link to a website it is being `voted` for and they place it at no.1 but what about other business other than search engines?

I can only think of phones, messaging clients and social networks at the moment but its 4am and i need to finish a ton of documentation.

What else could be identified and used in a similar way?

If i have quoted any of your post and it seems similar, please email me at earl@syndk8.com so i can give you credit.

Never thought of that.. maybe because I never was the popular kid and nobody ever called me.. oh, what a childhood trauma I have..
